Steve Melewski, at MASNSports.com, gives some thoughts about former IronBird and current Oriole Nick Markakis’ sturggles this season at the plate. Markakis had a double and a single in this afternoon’s game in Pittsburgh. 

Melewski also recaps the South Atlantic League All-Star Game, hosted by Delmarva, and mentions four former IronBirds who played in the game: Manny Machado, Ty Kelly, Jacob Pettit, and David Walters. Melewski concludes by discussing Machado’s promotion to High-A Frederick. 

As mentioned above, Machado has been promoted to the Frederick Keys. Here is the Keys’ announcement of that move. 

Bad news for former IronBird pitcher Dan Klein. Jeff Zrebiec, from the Orioles Insider blog at the Baltimore Sun, reports that Klein has a tear in his shoulder. The good news is that surgery is not the first option, as Klein will attempt to rehab the injury. 

The Clairon Ledger is reporting that Devin Jones has signed with the Orioles. The former Mississippi State Bulldog said he’ll be throwing bullpens in Florida for 10 days, and then expects to join the IronBirds.

Melewski also reports that after dominating Eastern League hitters, former IronBirds pitcher Cole McCurry has been promoted to Triple-A Norfolk.

Roch Kubatko, also from MASNSports.com, reports that 2010 IronBirds reliever Dan Klein will have his shoulder examined by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum.

Steve Melewski the Oriole’s writer for MASN Sportsrecaps the first nine picks of the 2011 MLB Draft, and provides a more in depth- analysis of both the Oriole’s strategy, as well as a more detailed breakdown of the bird’s new top prospects.   

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun’s Oriole’s Insider provides a background on the Oriole’s two local draft picks.  Third baseman Kevin Hockaday, who was selected in the 14th round and first baseman Brendan Butler taken in the 50th round, are both from Harford County’s John Carroll High School.  Both were also coached by Oriole Scout and IronBird official scorer Joe Stetka.  He also explains former IronBird’s pitcher Dan Klein’s precautionary MRI that will occur on Monday when the Bowie Baysox return home.  

MASN Sport’s writer Steve Melewski evaluates the Oriole’s performance in the 2011 MLB draft by interviewing Baseball America’s Jim Callis and discussing the Oriole’s goals and expectations for their recent additions.

The Baltimore Sun’s Oriole’s team blog posted a story explaining why ESPN’s Buster Olney claims the Orioles first-round draft pick Dylan Bundy, a high school pitcher out of Oklahoma that ESPN’s Buster was the best prospect in the 2011 draft. 

MLB.com writer Avi Zaelon highlights former IronBird’s shortstop Manny Machado as the Oriole’s top overall prospect.  

MASN Sport’s writer Steve Melewski recaps the performance of former IronBirds’ pitcher Zach Britton.  Britton, the rookie left-hander gets his sixth win as the Orioles beat Oakland 3-2 and sweep the Athletics at home in three games for the first time since July of 1998.

Brittany Ghiroli, writing for http://www.orioles.com, shares an article about former IronBird and current Oriole Ryan Adams. Adams is enjoying being in the big leagues, but, as Ghiroli writes, Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter is having a tough time getting Adams opportunities for at-bats.

Dan Connolly from the Baltimore Sun writes a blog about former IronBirds pitcher Dan Klein, who is currently at Double-A Bowie. Klein is being shut down due to a sore shoulder. At this point, there is no timetable for Klein to return. 

The Delmarva Shorebirds won last night with the help of several former IronBirds. The game marked the return of top prospect Manny Machado. In addition, Mike Flacco hit another home run and Tim Adleman picked up the win in relief. David Walters picked up his league-leading 16th save. 

Steve Melewski, over at MASNSports.com and former IronBirds radio play-by-play man, writes a blog post about Machado being activated, as well as his thoughts on where former IronBird Parker Bridwell will play baseball this season (possibly here in Aberdeen again?)

2010 IronBirds infielder Mike Flacco was named the South Atlantic League’s Player of the Week after batting .538 with seven doubles from May 17 through May 22.

MASNSports.com’s Steve Melewski reports that 2010 IronBirds team MVP Kipp Schutz has been promoted from Delmarva to Frederick. RHP Randy Henry, also a former IronBird, will take his roster spot.
